2015年9月在“一帶一路”提出兩週年之際，國家發改委會同外交部、商務部等部門對“一帶一路”英文譯法進行了規範，在對外公文中，統一將“絲綢之路經濟帶和21世紀海上絲綢之路”的英文全稱譯爲“the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”，“一帶一路”簡稱譯爲“the Belt and Road”，英文縮寫用“B&R”。
“一帶一路倡議”的準確譯法
“一帶一路”國際高峯論壇的英文全稱是“Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation”。在使用其簡稱“Belt and Road Forum”時，需要特別注意，不能圖一時之快再進一步簡稱爲“BARF”或“Barf”。這個簡稱只有一個音節，更易發音，但其含義卻是“嘔吐”(義同vomit、puke)。英語隨便一個包含3到4個字母的簡稱，都可能是幾十個全稱的縮略，還原後就可能出現貶義。“Belt and Road Forum”的簡稱“BRF”，就可上溯到80多個全稱，筆者迄未發現有貶義。“BARF”的全稱雖然只有30多個，卻出現了例外。對此，壓縮過程中需要慎之又慎，以免“高大上”淪爲“三俗”。
